Weight Management
A doctor-led programme for patients whose weight is affecting their health, at our Sengkang, Seletar, Anchorvale and Keat Hong clinics.

If you have already tried eating better and moving more, and the weight has not shifted or has come straight back, that is not a failure of willpower. Appetite and how the body stores energy are driven by hormones, sleep, stress, other conditions and the medicines you already take. When those are working against you, effort alone often is not enough.
That is the gap this programme is for. Our doctors look for what is actually driving your weight, treat it, and where it is clinically appropriate can prescribe medicine as part of the plan.
- 1. AssessHistory, measurements and blood tests where needed, to find what is driving your weight.
- 2. PlanA plan built around your job, your family and your meals. Medicine only if it is clinically appropriate.
- 3. ReviewRegular follow-up to see what is working and adjust it. More often at the start.
Is this for you?
It is for adults whose weight is affecting their health. As a general guide, that means a BMI of 27.5 or above, or 23 to 27.4 with a related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver or sleep apnoea. These are the Asian cut-offs used in the Ministry of Health and Health Promotion Board guidelines, and they are a guide, not a rule. Your doctor will assess you individually.

What treatment involves
- Changes to diet, activity and sleep that fit your daily life.
- Treating the conditions, and reviewing the medicines, that make weight gain more likely.
- Prescription weight-loss medicine where it is clinically appropriate, alongside those changes rather than instead of them. Several kinds are registered in Singapore, taken as a tablet or as an injection under the skin, and they work in different ways. Your doctor will explain which options suit you, the side effects and the risks, before anything is prescribed. To understand the medicines themselves, read our patient information on GLP-1 medicines and weight.
- Referral, where specialist or surgical care is the better option.
Before you start, please know
Weight-loss medicines commonly cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation, usually worst when starting or increasing a dose. Less common but more serious problems include inflammation of the pancreas and gallbladder problems. Contact the clinic if you feel unwell, and seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy; have had pancreatitis; have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2; have significant kidney or liver disease; or have had an eating disorder. Some patients should not take these medicines, and your doctor may advise against them.
What we do not do
We do not prescribe without a consultation. We do not use compounded or imported injections from unlicensed sources, or slimming supplements of unknown content. We do not promise a particular amount of weight loss, or a timeframe.
Costs
The usual consultation fee, plus any tests and medicines. Your doctor will go through the cost with you at the consultation, before you commit to anything.
Common questions
I have tried diet and exercise and it has not worked. What is different here?
Your doctor looks for the medical reasons behind the weight, including conditions and medicines that make it harder to lose, and treats those. Prescription medicines are also available where they are clinically appropriate for you, which is not something diet and exercise alone can offer. What is right for you is decided after an assessment.
Do I have to take medicine?
No. Many patients are managed with diet, activity and treatment of related conditions. Medicine is one option among several, and it is prescribed only where it is clinically appropriate for you.
Which medicines might be involved?
That depends entirely on your assessment, and it is a discussion to have with your doctor rather than a decision to make in advance. Our patient information on GLP-1 medicines and weight explains one group of prescription medicines used in the treatment of obesity, how they work, and their risks.
How much weight will I lose, and how fast?
We cannot tell you that, and you should be wary of anyone who does. It depends on your starting point, what is driving your weight and how your body responds.
Will I regain the weight if I stop?
Weight often returns after any treatment stops unless the changes behind the loss continue. That is why the programme is built around long-term habits and regular review.
Do I still need to change my diet and exercise?
Yes. Where medicine is used, it works alongside diet and activity, not instead of them.
I take other medicines. Can I still join?
Usually yes, and it is a good reason to be assessed properly. Bring your current medicines, or a list of them.
Can I be seen at any branch?
The programme runs at Sengkang, Seletar, Anchorvale and Keat Hong. Our other clinics can see you and refer you to one of the four.
